LOCAL ELECTIONS UPDATE - So ballots are already dropping for the city council race as we speak. This is the hard part because you cannot tell if people have done their ballots, or forgotten them. And in the 6 person primary every vote counts. I could win or lose by 50 votes, so don't let any go to waste.
So here are a couple of things you can still do -
1) Please go find yours and vote for John waite in the 3rd district race.
2) Drop a note to your friends via Telephone, E-mail and facebook about how important the primaries are, and they shoud check out John Waite for 3rd district. Have them check out this facebook campaign group.
3) Casually mention in conversation to your buddies the ballot drop, and how John Waite would be a great city councilman for the 3rd district.
4) I want to do some weekday morning/afternoon traffic sign waving. Give me a call, or drop me a note if you want to join in, or live close to a busy intersection, give me a call and I'll give you a sign to wave.
5) I am still trying to get together the last of the money needed for paying for my campaign ads. If you can help out, please contact me, or see the donate info on the from of my www.votejohnwaite.com site.
Thanks all. I have had a great time, and hope that Aug 19th we will continue this fight to make Spokane a Great place to live.
NO RADIO SHOW FOR A WHILE - Because of FCC rules, the board of KYRS has chose to have me off the air till the election are over. While I am not thrilled about it, I understand their concerns. I do think there are other ways to solve this. So for the next few weeks, I will try to get replacement hosts, or find worthy alternatives. This week I ran a show called "law and disorder". Very cool stuff. You should find it on the internet and check it out. On the shows status, I'll keep you posted. - John W
ALL THE ELECTIONS ISSUES OF THE LAST MONTH - So I have spent the lst month going to forums and meeting people in my quest to be elected to city council. Here are the big issues so far -
Spokane budget - the Spokane budget is going to be anywhere from 7$million to $14million short next year. There doesn't seem to be any idea's or concensus as to how to fix the problem. I think the city is paying way to much for services based on our local economy. We need to ask every city worker over some base amount $30,000 to take cuts so we can run the city properly. being the poorest district in the state, we cannot afford more tax increases, and cannot run government properly cutting more jobs.
Envision/Sustainability Spokane - I support sustanability Spokane because of it's advisory role only. While I respect the Envision suppoerters, I cannot support Envision at this time. I have great concerns about the legal and economic costs, in a time when we cannot afford either. BUT I do support the inititive process and think the voters will make the right choices.
Spokane Police - I'm surprised at the diverse groups worried about the Spokane Police and it's unions and guilds. I support an Ombudsman with invenstigative and supina powers, which we do not have at this time. I think we need to have a public meeting of the minds with police unions, administration and citizens to figure out how to get back the trust that has been lost in the Spokane police department.
Where are our elections primary voters guides? - I wrote this to the elections officials -
Dear elections officials,
We are already recieving our primary ballots this week. Where are our printed elections primary guides? And will they have local candidates and issues? I hope the powers that be don't expect everyone to get their voting information exclusively on the internet. If so, this kind of makes internet access and owning a computer a necessity, not a luxury. If you are cutting costs, this is one of the worse cuts possible. Please clarify what we can expect.
John Waite
City Council candidate, 3rd district, Spokane
MORE BANK CRAP, BONUSES BIGGER THAN REVENUE - Check out his article on banks bonuses. Here is a quote - "Bonuses paid to executives at nine banks that received U.S. government bailout money in 2008 were greater than net income at some of the banks"
