This Friday we will cover -
THE DEATH OF EDUCATION AND INTELLIGENCE? - My buddy Nick at Spokane Skeptic had a discussion on a SR letter by Graham Andrews. Essentially Grahm discusses how many politicians locally and nationally are falling into the trap of the "Everyman". Now I consider myself to be one of those Everymen. But to me that includeds trying to be as educated about as many issues as possible. And part of my peace with life is that I know I don't know everything, But I do want to keep learning something every day. But have we over the last 8 years created a society that respects opinions more than facts? Do we really want leaders and politicians that are nice and polite, as opposed to tough and honest?
ARE YOU SCARED OF SWINE FLU? - I'm already tired of the talk about Swine Flu this fall. I don't need the government spreading fear and trying to scare us into "needing" them more. How about more discussions on living healthy and avoiding the flu in the first place? And what is this discussiona bout everyone staying home if they get sick. How are we suppose to afford to pay bills and eat. The government doesn't have any money left to help out after 30 years of poor spending by both the Democrats and Republicans.
"OTHER" PARTY MEETING - I had a couple of meetings this week discussing the nature of elections and the two party monopoly on American government. We came to some conclusions about what would be nice changes.
1) More inclusive elections process. 2) Can the little guy force change in the corporate controlled government system. 3) Can third partys and independents organize to create an organized opposition group to the top two partys? 4) Can the mechanisms, structures and timings of the elective process be changed to bring more accessability?
So the goal in the next week or so is to figure out a day and time once a month to meet at Merlyn's and discuss how different political groups in the minority can work together to further broad access to the elective process. The goal is to have an inclusive, positive group with the sigular goal of expanding access to the government process. Drop me a note if your interested. I'll be making a facebook "makegovwork" group to help spread the word.
