Ralph Nader - TAX on Securities Derivities SPECULATION

Join the www.makegovwork.org radio show Friday Aug 4th at 9am. You will be able to hear it at 89.9 or 92.3 FM, or STREAMED on the internet at http://www.live365.com/stations/kyrs?site=pro. This show is meant to be a forum for you and the local community, so feel free to participate and tell us what you think.

You can e-mail me at gorbob@gmail.com about the show or with comments, and I will get to anything I have time for.

Or you can call the show at 747-3807 and speak your mind. Please call. Smile

This Friday we will cover -

LOCAL NEWS - Nothing happened locally.

AFGHANISTAN IS "SERIOUS" BUT WINNABLE. WTF?? - So you have the conservative hawk George Will (who I don't mind too much) talking about how we need to give up and leave Afghanistan this week. At the same time, you have General McChrystal saying Afghanistan is serious but victory is still achievable. I'll tell you what history says - never get involved in a land war in Asia. That'a actually from Princess Bride, but truer words have never been spoken. From the british, to the USSR, to the good old USA, Afghanistan has never been conquered, and it never will. The USA needs to get out while the gettings good. I seem to remember CANDIDATE Obama saying words to this effect.

BOOK TO READ - UNSCIENTIFIC AMERICA - Here is an interesting article about the book "Unscientific America". The problem is that the USA is falling behind other countries and their education system. We don't seem to understand the value of being educated and advancing our society. Is this acceptable. Is being "folky" somehow better thaneducated. Please enlighten me.

FINANCIAL TRANSACTION TAX, GOOD IDEA, BAD SPONSOR - Here is a great idea, but sponsored by the wrong people. I don't know why the AFL-CIO would stick their nose in finance issues. The idea of taxing speculative financial dealings is great. I first heard of it from Ralph Nader. Here is what he had to say. The goal is to generate revinue from risky behavior. The more risky, the bigger the tax.

"OTHER" PARTY MEETING, Sept 15th, Tuesday, 6pm, Merlyn's, 19 W MAIN - We have the time and date for the first meeting for the "other" party meeting. This is starting with the goal of understanding the problems that out current elective system faces, and what can be done about it. Our initial goals are as follows -

1) More inclusive elections process. 2) Can the little guy force change in the corporate controlled government system. 3) Can third partys and independents organize to create an organized opposition group to the top two partys? 4) Can the mechanisms, structures and timings of the elective process be changed to bring more accessability?

So the goal in the next week or so is to figure out a day and time once a month to meet at Merlyn's and discuss how different political groups in the minority can work together to further broad access to the elective process. The goal is to have an inclusive, positive group with the sigular goal of expanding access to the government process. Drop me a note if your interested. I made a facebook group, feel free to join and spread the word -

Facebook "makegovwork" group to help spread the word.

THE LAST "GOOD OBAMA/BAD OBAMA" - Here is this weeks scorecard,

GOOD OBAMA = OBAMA ADDRESSING CONGRESS ON HEALTH CARE

BAD OBAMA = OBAMA DUMPING "PUBLIC OPTION"

THE NEW "DUMB REPUBLICAN/DUMB DEMOCRAT" - Here is this weeks scorecard,

DUMB REPUBLICAN = JENKINS - "WE NEED TO FIND THE GREAT WHITE HOPE"

DUMB DEMOCRAT = Rep Rangel rips off USA (but we already knew this)

Permanent links of note -
