This Friday we will cover -

IMPOSSIBLE MEASURES AND PRESUMPTIONS, AMERICA'S BIG MISTAKE - I had one of those epiphany moments this morning listening to some blathering TV personality interview a government official. The official was going on about the effects of the stimulious and how they "knew" so much about what had happened. But to me this was an exercise in speculation, and even deceit. Were the decisions to go to war in Iraq worthwhile or necessary? Was the bank and auto bailouts critical to our survival? Well, we will never know, because we have an obscure and deceitful federal government that runs on the assumption that it knows better than we how we should live, tax and spend the resources of our lives. But obvious to me is that our federal government is the single most broken part of our country. And most importantly to this is the re-affermation that without transparency and accountability, we truely have no clue what our government is doing to us. Finally, we must move to a system of clear, simple and local government that by it's nature fosters accountability to the citizens regardless of their ideology or political bent.

SHOULD WE STAY OR SHOULD WE GO - We seem to be getting close to the breaking point when it comes to the war in Afghanistan. By this I mean that we have to decide weather to escalate or pull out. This article talks about the presures that go into making this momentus decision. History shows that Afghanistan is a country that cannot be conquered. And to what ends would we want to occupy it. Will this be our next Vietnam, or will wise men prevail?

DISCUSSION ON THE FAILINGS OF "AMERICAN" CAPITALISM - I found this great article that articulates the difficulties that our brand of capitalism creates. Hyman Minsky theorized that our brand of capitalism actually creates and propogates the "boom and bust" cycle that is ruining the USA. The difficulty seems to be the "artificial" economy with the necessity of consuming to keep things growing. But do we really need to grow to prosper?

"OTHER" PARTY MEETING, Oct 20th, Tuesday, 6pm, Merlyn's, 19 W MAIN -

So we had our first meeting of the "other party". We had a small group, but an excellent discussion. It seems imperative that we focus on elections and lack of access to ballots. elections and government. For this to work, people need to leave their policy issues at home. I think part of the MSM/big two agenda is to keep people off track. But I think people get that, and we were able to really discuss ideas, problems and solutions.

PROBLEMS - Interestingly, the lack of a real MSM (main stream media) was on everyone's mind. I think it's obvious that there has been some sort of abdication of duty by the MSM. And obviously the corporate control of finances and elections thought donations and lobbiest is damaging. But is ther an actual "conspiracy"? Hard to say. The concentration of media control was also an obvious issue. Supposedly 6 media companies control 90% of the media. A TERRIBLE SITUATION! And finally, the lack of access that non D's and R's have to our system is criminal. It's certainly not how the country was created.

SOLUTIONS - The scope of the problem is gigantic. But there are some things we can do. One is to focus on what we can control. Spokane based elections are something we can spend time and energy on.

1) One idea was to spend time writing the MSM, tv and radio about coverage and access for on D/R's. Maybe they don't know how frustrating it is?

2) Focus on helping the non D/R's with whatever info/resources/time and energy available. Don't waste resources on the two big parties. They get plenty of help. And don't fall for the "spoiler" label. That's the big lie. So we need people that are wiling to support whoever, even if they are not their guy. I love the idea of helping the "process".

3) We can make great things happen using smart people and the internet. We need to get some web savy people involved and articulate the things the other parties, independents and voters need to make better choices. So if you are, or know some web/blog savy people, please contact me. We want a site with links to elections info, calendars, blogs, chats, ways for people to see the other minor parties. A "one stop shopping site for the disenfranchised.

So we will have our next meeting Tiesday, October 20th at 7pm at Merlyn's. I would LOVE to have some card carrying third party members join us and have a discussion. Tell anyone that might be interested. Pass this facebook group to any of your third party friends.

I made a facebook group, feel free to join and spread the word -
