"Germans in the Woods" from StoryCorps

Join the www.makegovwork.org radio show Friday Sept 10th at 9am. You will be able to hear it at 89.9 or 92.3 FM, or STREAMED on the Internet at http://www.live365.com/stations/kyrs?site=pro. This show is meant to be a forum for you and the local community, so feel free to participate and tell us what you think.

You can e-mail me at gorbob@gmail.com about the show or with comments, and I will get to anything I have time for.

Or you can call the show at 747-3807 and speak your mind. Please call.

This Friday we will cover -

KYRS FALL FUND DRIVE - So this week I won't be able to talk about my articles and politics because it's the fall KYRS fund drive. We will instead be talking about the virtues of the station and playing some great music. And I hope to have some special guests.

NEO-PROGRESSIVE, AND WHO IS SOLD OUT? - I cannot remember if I talked about this great article on "Neo-Progressives".". After the failure of Obama and the Democrats to rein in corporate powers and wall street, one has to wonder who is working for who? Read the article because we are living in dangerous times.

OBAMA DOES IT RIGHT, NO ON BUSH TAX BREAKS - Finally Obama has taken a stand on something that will help regular people and not the corporate elites. He has supposedly said that he does not support renewing the Bush tax cuts. These are incredibly harmful breaks for the extreme rich in America. These tax cuts are not aimed at "small business owners" like me. I don't know any small business owners that make $200,000 a year. And that is certainly not "Middle class"...

PUBLIC FUNDING OF MILLIONAIRE SPORT STADIUMS REVISED - I've talked about this before, but Luke B from the Inlander found a great article that re-iterates how insane it is that we buy sports stadiums for millionaire owners and athletes. I think it is the height of irresponsibility to fund private stadiums and pour massive amounts of money into rich guys pockets. And it says something about supposed conservative business people that they support "socialized" public/private enterprises, that usually just funnel money into private hands.

GREAT SPOKANE CHARITIES, OURPLACE AND OTHERS - I wanted to mention the great bunch of local charities in Spokane including "OURPLACE" in west central. Not just Ourplace, but many of the charity organizations in Spokane are in serious need of help. And that help is the help that we and our friends might need someday. So please donate money, food, clothing or whatever you can to help them out. Merlyn's (19 w main) has collection boxes for anything you have to donate. If your doing well in these times of need, think about helping those in harder straights.

MAKEGOVWORK FACEBOOK GROUP - I've had a Facebook group for a while, but have not pushed it much. Facebook is a great way to communicate to others, so I wanted to make sure everyone joined up if they want to keep up, and help work to improve things. I made a Facebook group, feel free to join and spread the word -

How To Travel Cheaply

Join the www.makegovwork.org radio show Friday Sept 3rd at 9am. You will be able to hear it at 89.9 or 92.3 FM, or STREAMED on the Internet at http://www.live365.com/stations/kyrs?site=pro. This Friday we will cover -

TIRED OF BAD NEWS? HERE IS A WEEK OF ALL"GOOD NEWS" - I don't know about you, but I've had enough of "government" and bad news. So this week is all about the good things in life, AND NO GOVERNMENT CRAP!!! Feel free to call and tell me what you like about the world.

MOVIES, MUSIC, ETC... ALL THE GOOD THINGS IN COMMERCE/CAPITALISM - First I wanted to discuss the things I love in the world. I really love movies, music, comics, food and all the other nice things in life. Part of this is a love of commerce, competition and capitalism. Not the ugly, corrupt America/corporate version we practice now, but the capitalism of hard work, innovation and creativity. So how do we create the intersection of commerce along with an appreciation of the value of human beings?

"AMAZING RACE", AND A LOVE OF TRAVEL - Most of you all know that I LOVE TRAVEL. And I love to see other cultures and different places. This year I had to skip my regular trip. But next year I hope to see another great and different part of the world. When I cannot go places, I do love to watch "Amazing Race". Yeah, I know it's corporate TV cheese, but it's better than nothing when I'm trapped at home. I'm not sure when it's on, or even what channel, but keep an eye out and see a different bit of the world.

And from last week -

WHAT BE HAPPENING IN MIZZU MONTANA - I went to Missoula Montana this weekend with some friends and had a great time. As usual, I ate, drank and saw the sights. Another thing I love about trips is seeing the local magazines and newspapers and trying to figure out how different or similar their feelings and situations are with Spokane. So I got a smattering of local news and something called the "Missoula Independent" which right away caught my eye with their headline story - "2010 muzzle awards" showcasing stories the main stream press missed or avoided. Obviously this magazine is a kindred spirit.

MAKEGOVWORK FACEBOOK GROUP - I've had a Facebook group for a while, but have not pushed it much. Facebook is a great way to communicate to others, so I wanted to make sure everyone joined up if they want to keep up, and help work to improve things. Recession or Depression?

Join the www.makegovwork.org radio show Friday Aug 27th at 9am. You will be able to hear it at 89.9 or 92.3 FM, or STREAMED on the Internet at http://www.live365.com/stations/kyrs?site=pro. Or you can call the show at 747-3807 and speak your mind. Please call.

This Friday we will cover -

THE MOSQUE, PROPERTY, AND RELIGIOUS RIGHTS IN AMERICA - The biggest, dumbest story of the last two weeks is the argument whether Muslims in New York have the right to build a Mosque two blocks away from the 9/11 site. So you supposed conservatives out there, do you really believe in property rights or freedom of religion? Or is it just when it's YOUR PROPERTY, OR YOUR RELIGION? Hypocrisy is the saddest human state.

PS - Ron Paul Nails the GOP hypocrisy. This is why I REALLY LIKE Paul. Everyone should check out his honest look at the issue..

PAKISTANI FLOODS, WORSE DISASTER EVER? - So Pakistan is going through some of the worse flooding ever seen in modern times. The UN says this may be the worse disaster in recent memory with 6 million people affected. It's interesting how little time the main stream media has spent on this story. Especially when it affects our ability to fight in Pakistan and supply Afghanistan.

Obviously this magazine is a kindred spirit.

GOP REAGAN INSIDER "GOP DESTROYED AMERICA" - Finally, a great article encapsulating my anger at the modern republican party, and how their economic efforts contributed to the destruction of America. This is not to give the Democrats any breaks, for they are as guilty as the R's...

MAKEGOVWORK FACEBOOK GROUP - I've had a Facebook group for a while, but have not pushed it much. Facebook is a great way to communicate to others, so I wanted to make sure everyone joined up if they want to keep up, and help work to improve things. This Friday we will cover -

LIBERAL VS CONSERVATIVE GIBBERISH - It seems like we have an escalation of dislike and distrust of the two parties lately. Progressives don't like the "bush-like" activities of Obama. The Republicans don't like the uncontrollable actions of the Tea Party. Both parties realize that they are more of an opportunity to be the "least of two evils" in voters minds. This year would be the best ever to have other real choices, but the two party system will have nothing of it. And what exactly is a liberal or conservative. Was Clinton a liberal or conservative? Do you mean socially or fiscally? Are republicans really more fiscally conservative than Democrats. Not if you look at the last 40 years. And is Obama really that liberal when it comes to dealing this wall street and the wars? Maybe it's time to stop with the useless labels and make an effort to get to the core values of each candidate. WHAT A CRAZY IDEA!!!

THE FINAL SAY ON CANDIDATES AND ELECTIONS - I wasn't going to say much about the elections this time, but there is some need to get to the important points of the races that are not covered by the media. So if anyone has any ideas or questions, we will have an open discussion about the candidates and races.

Here is the state campaign guide.

Here is the Spokesman Review campaign site.

GROWTH-ISM, WHAT A CROCK - Finally, here is a look at the nonsense that is Growth-ism. It comes from both the Republicans and Democrats and is the idea that regardless of the misadventures and spending mishaps, we can always grow our way out of all financial issues. Except through the last thirty years, starting with Ronald Reagan, Supply side economics has never worked. Of course the republicans will tell you that we have never done it right, "but next time we will". And the Democrats spend, spend, spend with no regard to the real economy. We truly are caught between the rock and the hard place.

PS - I thought I made up the team Growth ism, but here is an older take.

PPS - And here is a link to Supply Side Economics for those that need more info.

MAKEGOVWORK FACEBOOK GROUP - I've had a Facebook group for a while, but have not pushed it much. This Friday we will cover -

SPOKANE CITY BUDGET WOES - Here is the latest budget issues the city faces. When are people going to wake up and see that you cannot give raises and unrealistic benefits to people in governemtn anymore. WE ARE BROKE and getting broker. I've been fighting this crap for 5 years. When are people going to open their eyes?

MODERN POLITICS, TERRIBLE CHOICES, REID VS ANGLE - I feel so bad for the people of Nevada. Their terrible political choices are Reid and Angle, both TERRIBLE candidates for office. But I also feel bad for our country that people keep propegating the 2 party system. It only leads to lack of choice and quality in candidates. We need more choice, and to get rid of primaries all together.

SPOCON, AND A SCI-FI LOOK AT POLITICS - I went to Spocon last weekend and had a great time. We did a panel on politics is Sci-Fi, and had a wonderful, and sometimes contentious discussion. Here is a link to a wikipedia collection of sci-fi political themes. We tried to focus on fiction and futurism, and came up with this list of books that you should read. Are are classics. -

The Dispossessed: An Ambiguous Utopia by Ursula K. Le Guin.
The Last Centurion by John Ringo.
Voyage from Yesteryear by James P. Hogan.
Starship Troopers by Robert A. Heinlein.
Starship Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell.

This Friday we will cover -

BELL CALIFORNIA, AND THEIR THIEVING CITY LEADERS - I was in Southern California this last week for the San Diego Comic Con. One of the things I like about traveling is that you get to see the news in different areas and see what is going on. The news out of Bell California was the worse sort of government thievery I have seen in ages. Their city leaders had gave themselves giant pay increases, and hid it under the protection of "Closed Meetings". This is a perfect example why cities, counties and states should NEVER have Closed Sessions unless there is a threat to life. Anything else should be seen by the Tax payers of the community. Hopefully this will be a lesson to other communities and our to expand transparency and accountability.

WESTBORO BAPTIST CHURCH VS SAN DIEGO COMIC CON - While I was visiting San Diego went to the San Diego Comic Con. And another fine group decided to protest our comic convention. We were blessed with the insanity of the Westboro Baptist Church. These are the guys that run around protesting military funerals. They are also the group that is HATED BY EVERYONE IN AMERICA, from gays to the KKK. They sent a strong group (4 people) to protest comics and comic con. To counter that 100's of con attendees came out in costume with signs and roundly kicked their ass (metaphorically). Check out the link to see some of the best signs. Nothing like humor to disarm these freakish, church going hatemongers.

COMMERCE, CAPITALISM, THE FREE MARKET AND SAN DIEGO COMIC CON - I got back from San Diego Comic con thinking about commerce, capitalism, the free market and socialism/government controls. Comic Con is especially good at showing competition and free market principles in action. But how does this relate to government an necessities like food and health care. And what are things really worth in life. And what about value in regards to Digital vs print How does commerce and competition relate to your life and your government?

MAKEGOVWORK FACEBOOK GROUP - I've had a Facebook group for a while, but have not pushed it much. Facebook is a great way to communicate to others, so I wanted to make sure everyone joined up if they want to keep up, and help work to improve things. This Friday we will cover -

JOHN IS GONE - I'll be gone this friday, but have a great show "INSIGHTERS" lined up for a replacement. It will be great subject matter -

1. Psychologist Drew Westin, author of "The Political Brain: The Role of Emotions in deciding the Fate of the Nation," says feelings are the basis of most political decisions and voting.

2. Vandana Shiva discusses if we can sustain the Earth with our current economic structure and questions whether Democratic practices are compatible with the way the Earth functions. Shiva author of "Earth Democracy: Justice, Sustainability and Peace" and "Soil not Oil"

3 J.R. Slosar talks about the Culture of Excess: How America Lost Self Control and Why We Need to Redefine Success. Our national psychology has become narcissistic, driven by a maddening quest for perfection, technology, deregulation, and a superficial inaccurate mass media says J.R. Slosar.

AND I CANNOT LET THE REPUBLICANS STAND ON UNEMPLOYMENT GO UNCHALLENGED - I'm no lover of either two major parties, but the Republicans vote against continuing unemployment benefits is a vile and disgusting bit of work. Oh, it's only about "fiscal responsibility", we only want to balance the budget. WHERE WERE YOU FOR THE LAST DECADE!!! You ass hats, you voted for Bushes Unemployment benefits programs, with not a word about balanced budgets. Hypocritical bullshit is what it is. Please pull your collective heads out of your collective asses and start fixing problems...

MANKIND = SHORT, BRUTISH AND NASTY... - Hobbes described the natural state of mankind (the state pertaining before a central government is formed) as a "warre of every man against every man". In the book Leviathan he outlines the 'incommodites' of such a war:

"Whatsoever therefore is consequent to a time of Warre, where every man is Enemy to every man; the same is consequent to the time, wherein men live without other security, than what their own strength, and their own invention shall furnish them withall. In such condition, there is no place for Industry; because the fruit thereof is uncertain; and consequently no Culture of the Earth; no Navigation, nor use of the commodities that may be imported by Sea; no commodious Building; no Instruments of moving, and removing such things as require much force; no Knowledge of the face of the Earth; no account of Time; no Arts; no Letters; no Society; and which is worst of all, continuall feare, and danger of violent death; And the life of man, solitary, poore, nasty, brutish, and short."

This Friday we will cover -

SPOKANE COUNTY PROSECUTORS RACE - DAVE STEVENS - With the elections season coming up, and the primary elections due on Aug 17th, we need to get more information about the candidates in the different races. This week I want to talk about and get a better understanding of the Spokane County Prosecutors race. I'll have candidate Dave Stevens in studio to answer your questions about Spokane county sheriffs, preventive policing and social services, county budgets, what the job entails, incarceration in Spokane county and are there better, cost effective ways of deal with crime in Spokane.

KNOW WHO YOUR VOTING FOR - To many times in our modern era people just vote for the name they recognize, or vote for the person from their party. It's time for us to be MUCH MORE DISCRIMINATING about who we vote for. We need to work harder to understand what that candidate stands for. So here is at least a list of the candidates. Lets make sure we find out about the races that affect us.

LOSS OF CIVIL LIBERTIES, NEITHER PARTY PROTECTS YOU - Here is just one more scary story about the loss of civil liberties in America. Now there are states that are making it illegal to videotape or take pictures of the police. This lame law is really a effort to keep you and I from keeping an eye out on our law enforcement. This is not acceptable. Make sure your lawmakers don't let this happen in our state.

TARP FAILS MAIN STREET, ENRICHES WALL STREET - Short and sweet, TARP failed to help main street, and just enriched Wall Street. Is this acceptable to you?

This Friday we will cover -

GUEST HOST - ANGELA JOHNSON - Every couple of months I have a guest host on the show that offers us all a chance to get a different perspective. This week I'm happy to have our Programming director Angela Johnson on the show. We are going to talk about all sorts of issues including I-1068, the initiative process, the state of higher education and much more.

I-1068 AND THE INITIATIVE PROCESS - Angela was the Eastern Washington coordinator for I-1068, the initiative for the legalization of Marijuana. It didn't get enough signatures this time, but they will try again. Also we will discuss the the broken and corrupt, money driven Initiative process.

HIGHER EDUCATION AND THE COSTS - Also we will discuss the state of Education and its cost. I'm sure school loans and education costs are near and dear to many of our listeners.

WHATEVER ELSE?? - It's Angela's hour, and Angela's world.

MAKEGOVWORK FACEBOOK GROUP - I've had a Facebook group for a while, but have not pushed it much.
